Sous le dôme épais is a duet for soprano and mezzo-soprano in the first act of Lakmé by Clément Philibert Léo Delibes. Lakmé, daughter of a Brahmin priest, and her servant Mallika, sing this as they go to gather flowers by a river. I have given Lakmé’s line to the alto recorder and Mallika’s line to the tenor. A tenor player with a good high C could also play Lakmé’s line. The piece is quite rubato and I have kept that aspect. It might be hard to sight-read for that reason, but it is such a beautiful piece that you won’t mind playing it a few times.
