Il Silenzio (the Silence) was written for the 25th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands after WWII by Italian trumpet player Nini Rosso and Gugliemo Brezza. It is based on an Italian cavalry bugle call also used by Tchaikovsky in his Capriccio Italien. It singles the end of the day in both Italian and Hellenic barracks and is popular for commemorative events. A current popular version, featuring the original trumpet solo, is that of André Rieu and his orchestra (go figure!). See it here.
There are two arrangements here: one in C for solo recorder with lute and percussion and one in F for recorder sextet featuring an alto solo. The solo in the key of C can be played on any instrument.
