Project 333: ready, engage-fire!

33 items of clothing for 3 months, easy! Right? I feel like I wear the same few clothes all the time, I dont think I have a lot of clothes.. we are talking outer-ware, clothes and accessories you wear to work or leisure (as opposed to under-wear, night wear, work out gear)  the guidelines are here.

I tend to create a uniform where there isn’t one already, as part of having to travel for work you learn to optimise your travel bag. Between that and moving into a smaller 83sqm home we are building has meant a lot of things have been down sized.

For example, before I came across project 333 I was already keeping all the clothes I don’t wear all the time in these 4 baskets in my daughters room – the top ones, my daughters are the bottom ones!

These are my winter clothes, clothes that are too big or small right now or just the ones I don’t wear much. Incidentally there are 99 items of clothes in these baskets. We’ve been keeping our clothes to 4 baskets each for over a year now – My daughter uses the 4 baskets as her current clothes and packs away into a large bag the clothes shes not wearing right now.  These are clothes, so not shoes ( of which I have 10 pairs in total) or accessories which I have 5 in total), or jackets (of which I have 3) so 117 items all up set aside.

I had to do some weeding out of my clothes I currently wear to get down to 33 items of clothes and accessories, they fit easily into my two drawers in my room.

Its summer here and this is  what I have in my 33 clothes…

  • 1 Dress
  • 1 Skirt
  • 5 Long Pants
  • 3 Short Pants
  • 3 Jerseys/Cardigans
  • 1 Poncho
  • 1 Sweatshirt
  • 8 Tops
  • 3 Singlets
  • 1 pair of Jandals
  • 2 pair of Sandals
  • 1 pair of Shoes
  • 1 pair of Sneakers
  • 2 Bracelets

This is not about making sacrifices, its about living with less, when you have a mindset of less is more its very liberating!  What I am going to wear each day just got a whole lot easier and my mind a teeny bit freer!
